Online Master of Science in Education
What do master teachers and great leaders have in common?
Both have a vision. Both know how to communicate that vision. And both know how to implement that vision.
Those are the qualities you’ll receive through the Master of Science in Education Program through Franciscan University Online—qualities that will make you both a master teacher and a great leader.
A Legacy of Faith and Reason
Internationally recognized for both its academic excellence and rich faith life, Franciscan University has a proven tradition of producing graduates who are as skilled in the science of education as they are in the art of teaching.
As an MSEd student through Franciscan University Online, you’ll become part of that same tradition, taught the same courses by the same professors—seasoned professionals who will help you learn how to educate the whole person, h mind, body, and spirit.
What Every Educational Leader Needs to Know
At Franciscan University Online, through courses in curriculum and human development, models of teaching and educational theory, you’ll acquire a solid foundation in educational leadership.
You’ll also have the option in choosing from one of two different program concentrations: online learning and reading (hyperlink those two concentrations to sidebar pages.
Whatever concentration you choose and whichever kind of classroom you teach—physical or virtual—your MSEd from Franciscan University will help you attain the skills you need to implement Franciscan’s holistic vision of education, a vision that respects the dignity of every student and helps them to grow not only intellectually, but also emotionally and spiritually.
How It Works
Through Franciscan University Online, you can earn your MSEd in as little as 18 months.
The bulk of your studies will take place “in the cloud” through Franciscan’s Online Blackboard. This innovative learning management system functions as a virtual classroom, allowing you to collaborate with professors, multiple class members, and study partners as you create and participate in video lectures, discussion threads, podcasts, Vodcasts, wikis, email, video mail, instant messaging, social media, blogs, and more.
In addition to weekly reading and writing assignments, online assessments allow you to demonstrate your learning after each instructional component. Your final performance-based project will then display how you can put your new skills to work to benefit your current or potential students.
Accredited by the North Central Higher Learning Commission and the Ohio Board of Regents, our online courses adhere to the same rigorous academic standards you value in all Franciscan University programs.
The Online Masters Degree in Education can be taken with either of two concentrations
Online Learning Concentration
With a concentration in online learning you’ll become adept at the methods, strategies and techniques behind teaching online courses. You’ll learn how to engage digital natives with the latest in learning technology, and discover what it takes to become an effective instructor in the media-rich, 21st century learning environment.
With the reading endorsement concentration, your coursework will give you a a strong theoretical background in reading along with the instructional methods and materials necessary to apply those principles in a classroom setting with young children. The culminating course, Practicum in Diagnosis of Reading Difficulties, will provides you with a closely supervised opportunity to do that, tasking you with implementing an entire clinical reading experience for young children.
